Science in the Real World
Study science where it happens
Scientific curiosity starts in the classroom, then travels to places in the natural world where the processes of biology, chemistry, and physics occur. Falmouth Academy students study science where it happens: in our own vernal pool explorations, during woodland expeditions and mountain excursions, and on ocean voyages.
Our proximity to world-renowned scientific institutions creates unique opportunities for our students. We place several students each year as interns in laboratories at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI). A number of professional scientists also mentor students on their independent research projects. And throughout the school year our students host the Women in Science and Engineering program, which invites professional scientists to speak to our students during lunch about their work and careers (see video below).
The Falmouth Academy Science and Engineering Fair is unique and draws more than one hundred local scientists to judge student research. Every year, Falmouth Academy students advance to regional—and even national and international—science and engineering fairs.
